How Many Glasses in a Bottle of Wine?

A standard 750 ml bottle of wine holds five glasses at the standard 150 ml (5 oz) pour. That is the number sommeliers, restaurants, and nutrition labels all use. In real life, pours drift larger, which is why a bottle shared at home often serves four.

Glasses per bottle, by pour size

  • Tasting pour, 60-75 ml: 10 to 12 tastes per bottle. The number that matters for tasting rooms and events.
  • Standard pour, 150 ml: Exactly 5 glasses. The restaurant benchmark and the basis of by-the-glass pricing.
  • Generous home pour, 175-200 ml: About 4 glasses. No judgment.
  • Champagne flute, 100-125 ml: 6 to 7 flutes per bottle, which is why one bottle never survives a toast of eight.

Servings by bottle format

Larger formats scale linearly: a magnum pours 10 standard glasses, a Jeroboam 20, and the party-sized formats climb from there. The full run of sizes and their biblical names is in our wine bottle sizes chart.

  • Split (187.5 ml): 1 generous glass. The single-serve format.
  • Half bottle (375 ml): 2.5 glasses, ideal for a dinner for one or dessert wine for two.
  • Standard (750 ml): 5 glasses.
  • Magnum (1.5 L): 10 glasses, the dinner-party sweet spot.

The event-planning shortcut

Caterers plan half a bottle per guest for a dinner (2 to 3 glasses each) and a third of a bottle per guest for a reception hour. So a wedding of 100 needs roughly 50 bottles of wine for dinner, or about 4 cases, and a bottle count for any event is just guests divided by two, rounded up to the case.

And on the production side

For producers the same arithmetic runs the other way: a barrel is about 300 bottles or 1,500 glasses, a pallet is 672 bottles, and a tasting room pouring 75 ml tastes gets ten times the mileage per bottle that a restaurant does. Oenova keeps those conversions live across bottles, cases, and pallets so the numbers you promise are the numbers you have. Free plan, no credit card.
